During the middle weekend of May, Longchamp stages the first two French Classics. They are both races in which the French trainers normally successfully repel any foreign raider as the races are run too close for runners in the English and Irish equivalents to take part. The Prix Poule d’Essau des Poulains – The French Two Thousand Guineas had fifteen runners take part over the 1 mile trip on good to soft ground. Most of the runners were French trained, just two from foreign raiders
